MORE ABOUT EUGENE SOUNDS

--Rob Cook and Mari Dole

Eugene Sounds is a Radio reading, education and entertainment service provided primarily for blind and print disabled listeners that is offered through Internet streaming. In years past, radio reading services for the Blind were restricted to small FM or TV bands and optional equipment was often
needed to access the programming.

With the advancement and popularity of the Internet, more and more radio and other electronic media are shifting to Web-based Internet forms of production. This means that Eugene Sounds Radio can now be received by anyone on the planet that has Internet access and wants to hear what people with disabilities are up to in Lane County! Also, the Internet is accessible to anyone, including those with disabilities, who have a computer enhanced with adaptive technology for their respective disability.

Now for the important parts: LILA NEEDS VOLUNTEERS!!

LILA can be your opportunity to do media production!

Whatever your interests, volunteer and produce it on Eugene Sounds!

For more information contact the LILA office at 541-607-7020 and ask for Eugene Sounds.

We invite everyone who has an interest in oral reading, educating folks on virtually any topic, or any style of music.

WANT TO HELP? We really need CDs and other musical donations.

Please give us a call!

Programming

We are currently webcasting two local newspapers, The Register Guard and The Eugene Weekly, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The Eugene Weekly is an independent paper that comes out on Thursdays.

At present, this is our only original programming. However, as time permits, we will be mastering books that have been read for us by several faithful narrators. These include the entire Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, which are classic children's books; The Endurance by Caroline Alexander, about Sir Ernest Shackleton's arduous expedition to Antarctica; and several others. What we hope to do is webcast these after the newspaper, in tribute to these diligent narrators.
